Episode Guide

The episode starts of with a quick glance at a mutilated cow, and strangely a dog licking its eye socket, much to Louis' obvious disgust. After the opening credits, Louis meets his first point of call in his journey, Thor Templar, an ex-venture capitalist, turned Lord Command of the North American chapter of the Earth Protectorate. Thor explains that the Alien Resistance Movement of which he is a member are responsible for tracking extra terrestrials coming to Earth, and helping humans who have been abducted and "implanted" by these aliens. They also sell numerous products to the public to help them and give them the technology to fight against the aliens. One of these products is known as "The Bodyguard", and according to Thor, is a piece of 25th Century science, working with your mind to protect you. He also has many other devices which emit fields protecting his house from these entities. As well as this, the Alien Resistance Movement sells a "UFO Detector", retailing at about $350, and an "Alien Mutilator", which "works on mental energies". Thor sees himself as a Warrior Monk, and proceeds to claim he himself has killed over twenty aliens, and has ensignias sewn onto his uniform to show this. He sees Louis, who has trouble believing these stories to be true, as basically delusional.

Louis and Thor then make their way to Giant Rock, a well known entry point for extra terrestrials and popular watching spot for UFO seekers. Louis has been told that there is a very real chance meeting, and even being attacked by aliens, but seems to be relieved to know that they have the latest 25th Century technology with them. Among the weapons brought by Thor is the "Cyborg Helmet", which looks essentially like a cycling helmet with things glued to the side of it. Theroux is equipped with a weapon attached to a band around his head, which is channelling his mental energy, and the weapon will help him disable alien shields incase of an attack. To finish the job the team have edged weapons such as axes to kill the extra terrestrials. However much to Louis' disappointment, after a long wait nothing happened.

After leaving Thor Templar to continue his UFO hunting, Louis takes to Crestone, a small town in the south of America where livestock mutilations are a common occurrence, which many theorise UFO's are responsible for. One farm worker described one mutilation as so, "the scrotum had been cut, the testes removed, just in a surgical straight line... the rectum had been removed, the penis had been removed, the tongue was cut off". She seemed to think there was a possibility extra terrestrial beings could have been responsible for this. With the promise of being able to tag along to the next mutilation scene, Louis begins his background research by looking at "field guides" of common alien types, whetting his appetite Louis was anxious to see the real thing.

In an attempt to physically see and meet some extra terrestrials, Louis goes out at night with some members of CSeti, a non profit organistation devoted to understanding aliens. One method of attempted contact is flashing a torch into the sky and also broadcasting a repeated tone over radio waves. This however fails to work, and Louis has to find other places to look. He ventures to Area 51 in Nevada, arguably the most famous UFO related site in the world, where the American military have a top secret base, and many people have reported encounters nearby.

Louis goes by tour bus to Area 51, and Rachel, Nevada, a tiny town of 105 residents nearby to the military base. Of those residents, 50 are professionally ufologists. The tour bus approaches the perimeter of the base and the group get out to attempt to provoke a reaction from the guards, by waving, getting very close to the edge of the base, and throwing rocks. Louis even poses for the camera in front of a sign reading, "Photography of the Area is Prohibited". After walking up on the hill where they should not be, a white patrol vehicle starts to approach, and the camera has to be turned off as they flee back to the bus.

After retreating from the armed guards, Louis and his tour guide head to a small cafe in the town of Rachel, and plans to head out to the base at night to try and get a glimpse of the imfamous "UFO test runs". He speaks to Glenn Campbell who runs the Area 51 Research Center. Glenn takes Louis on a quick tour of the town, speaking to some of the residents about their experiences or encounters with extra terrestrials, including one man who is building his own replica space ship, albeit in the early stages thus far.

That evening Louis journeys to the best viewing spot of the Area 51 base, known as the "Black Mailbox", although Louis is baffled as the mailbox is white. Whilst at the viewing spot he speaks to a man who claims to have travelled from Seattle to see "flickering lights", because according the him, "the truth is out there". Again however Louis' quest is fruitless and the group see nothing. Still with hope, Theroux moves away from Nevada and attempts to meet with some other UFO enthusiasts. His first attempt is with the Heavens Gate movement who soon after committed suicide in a mass pact, and another effort to talk to a UFO contactee is rebuffed.

Eventually Louis hits gold when he meets a Reverand Robert Short?. Short charges Louis $50 to "channel a UFO" for him, claiming he is in contact with intelligent beings from a planet known as Koldas, who live in an paralel universe to our own, living on their equivilent of our Saturn. Short tells Louis that the inhabitants of the planet previously lived in our Solar System thousands of years ago but had to move due to war, and undertook a risky time travel proceedure to move away from the area. He then explains he will be using the "Sub Space Radio Network" to speak to his contact Korton on this planet. Short then goes into some sort of trance, like a fit which his voice changes and his body is rigid, and begins to speak in the allegeded voice of the aformentioned Korton. Louis seems shocked and confused by this and begins to ask questions to Korton/Reverand Short to which there seem to be generic non specific answers to. His speech seems to be interspersed with "umm" in between every few words. Afterwards, Louis tells the Reverand it was an "intense" experience which put him on edge.

It seems as though Louis takes the experience with a pinch of salt and as he himself says he "didnt know how much of that to believe". There is good news for Theroux however as he gets a phone call telling him of a recent "mute" (cattle mutilation) to which he can visit with a contact he met earlier in the episode. Upon arriving at the scene Louis notes the awful smell, and when the tarpaulin is removed describes "the rectum is bubbling". The pair then take some samples and speak to the farmer whom the animal belonged to, and cannot come to any firm answers, Louis puts it perfectly, "it was a genuine mystery".

Louis' concludes the episode with, "whatever gets you through the cosmic void doesnt bother me... just dont lay a finger on my rectum!"
